Art, poetry and glittered tassels decorated Roberts Street in downtown Fargo this weekend to celebrate the eighth annual erotic art show in conjunction with Dr. Sketchy.
The erotic art show is a three-day show that formed eight years ago for visual artists in the area.
One of the headlining acts for the show included North Dakota?s only burlesque troupe Bad Weather Burlesque. The show included burlesque performances, poetry readings and a special drawing session for both artists and models.
The Dr. Sketchy drawing session held on Saturday gave artists the opportunity to draw local models in erotic-inspired experience. With a fetish-themed inspiration, Bad Weather dancers were dispersed throughout DK Framing for local artists to draw. Along with bragging rights, artists also had the opportunity to win lowbrow art books.
There was also a gallery of submitted art at DK Framing, which will stay up for the rest of the month.
Downstairs in The New Direction, Bad Weather Burlesque and spoken word artists opened the three-day show on Valentine?s Day with a theme centered on reactions to love. Co-founder of The New Direction and MSUM alumnus Jack Stenerson was excited to open the doors to the erotic art show this year.
?We?ve never had anything like this before; it?s completely new and very cool,? Stenerson said. ?It?s also good to see our name out there doing more things besides music, we are open to any events like that and doing stuff like this is good working with other organizations for the underground community.?
One of the performing poets was MSUM professor Kevin Zepper, along with other artists Christine Hoper and Julie Larson. Zepper stirred the crowd after reciting two poems just before graphic design student Ande Sailer took the stage to perform his version of Prince?s hit song ?Kiss.?
?There are so many wonderful creative people in our community,? Horning said. ?With an event like this it combines visual artists, performance artists and literary bugs all for the sake of erotica.?
Alternating between poetry and burlesque was new for the show as well as the troupe. Bad Weather hoped to attract anyone and everyone who was interested in the F-M art community.
Graphic design student Theresa Boyle is a co-worker of Sailer?s and came out to show her support.
?I really enjoyed the show,? Boyle said. ?The poetry mixed with the performances kept my interest throughout the event along with exhibit right up stairs, it was a good theme to go along with Valentine?s Day.?
