MORNING NEWS: City Considers $527000 Communications ...

JAMESTOWN ? The city of Jamestown will have to update its radio communication system in the coming months. That?s according to an article in today?s Jamestown Post-Journal, which says the Jamestown Department of Public Works, Jamestown Police Department and Jamestown Fire Department will update their radio systems at a cost of $527,000.

Police Chief Harry Snellings updated city lawmakers last night, saying the city is required to meet new Federal Communications Commission regulations by Jan. 1, 2013. To pay for the upgrade, Snellings said the sheriff?s office is applying for a state grant, but he doesn?t know if the city will get any of the money. As a result, the city may have to take out a loan to pay for the upgrade. The entire city council will most likely consider the upgrade during next month?s voting session.
