Brighton?s unique arts event?s partnership with the city?s film school

The Space, which stages regular and unique Brighton-based arts and entertainment related events, has?just become partners with the city?s prestigious film school for the next twelve months. The Space (Southern?Performance and Creative Energies) will see at least its next six events sponsored by Brighton Film School.

Each event features two high-calibre guests, interviewed about their work and achievements within an intimate?venue, The Basement.

Since The Space began, in May 2006, its over 100 guests have included Bugsy Malone and Midnight Express?director Sir Alan Parker, James Bond and Sherlock composer David Arnold, comedian Frank Skinner, Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman and film critic Barry Norman.

Brighton Film School?s Marketing Manager, Richard Campbell, said, ?Brighton Film School is delighted to?sponsor The Space?s series of film and TV nights. It is a fantastic and special resource for Brighton and?filmmakers in general, and we look forward to being associated with them. Brighton Film School is a specialist?facility in the heart of Brighton, delivering practical filmmaking training to beginners, graduates and industry?professionals. Our flagship courses are degree-level HNC and HND qualifications in Filmmaking and our?Cinematography and Directing Diploma. We also teach evening classes in filmmaking, screenwriting, art-direction and editing. We have two special Summer Schools that are a fun and creative couple of weeks. One of?these is aimed at teenagers who want to get into filmmaking or make their first portfolio piece.?

From June to August, into The Space?s seventh year of events, the following special guests will be taking part:

  • Jeff Wayne (The Musical Version of The War of the Worlds)
  • Red Dwarf creator Doug Naylor
  • Brian Cosgrove, children?s animation legend, creator of Danger Mouse and Jamie and the Magic Torch
  • Film sound designer Glenn Freemantle (The Woman in Black, Quartet, Slumdog Millionaire)
  • Former leading Doctor Who producer Philip Hinchcliffe (1975-77)
  • Utopia, Spooks and Matilda the Musical writer Dennis Kelly

The Space?s Creative Director, Wayne Imms, said, ?Our dedicated team and I are so pleased to be in a position to build upon our valued association with Brighton Film School. We?ll be working together over the next twelve months on supporting each other, whilst working together on a great line-up of events. I?m also pleased that the school?s students will be also working with us by filming the events, gaining great experience capturing the high-profile guests being interviewed. We share the school?s aim in bringing those passionate about film and the arts opportunities to be up close and to meet highly successful figures from those areas.?

Brighton Film School was re-launched under new management in 2011. Through a wide range of courses, it?supports people interested in filmmaking, from for fun or those keen to pursue a career in the film industry.

The Space began seven years ago to facilitate and to inspire people with an interest in various aspects of the?creative industries and the media, through networking opportunities and a highly impressive line-up of guests.
