Shadowgun brings console-quality gaming to Android

As a gamer, I have been somewhat disappointed to date with the lack of high-caliber games available on the Android platform. Sure, we have runaway successes such as Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, and Cut the Rope, but unless you?ve managed to get your hands on a console emulator before Google removed the bulk of them from the Android market, console-quality games have been missing from our devices that are certainly capable of them.

Enter Shadowgun. Shadowgun is a third person shooter that can graphically match some of the games we?ve seen hit the current generation gaming consoles (Xbox 360, PS3). In short, the graphics on Shadowgun are simly beautiful, and they render very well on Tegra-powered tablets and even smartphones. Between myself, Clark, and Taylor, we have played Shadowgun on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, an ASUS Transformer, and a Motorola Photon 4G. Regardless of which device on which we played Shadowgun, the gameplay was smooth even in the heat of some pretty intense firefights.

Though we were only given access to three levels, that proved to be enough for me to get a good feel of the game. Overall, the game is simply phenomenal, and I enjoyed pretending to be a badass machine gunner for a while.

Those of you expecting the game to be easy, it isn?t. I found myself seriously struggling to get past the big boss in level 2 while in the game?s hard mode (you can chose easy, medium, or hard), and had to reach out to Clark and Taylor for some tips. For the hardcore gamer, Shadowgun will easily become the game to have on Android, and is quite frankly a steal at $ 4.99.

Final Thoughts

Shadowgun is the first of the next-generation games to launch on the Android platform, and graphically rivals what we?ve seen on the current generation gaming consoles. If you?re an avid gamer, the time where games that make you proud to own an Android device is here.

Shadowgun is expected to launch in the next few weeks, exclusively to Tegra devices for $ 4.99. If you enjoy gaming at all, you will owe it to yourself to spend the $ 5.

We?ll have a full review for you once we get our hands on the full release.
